World Bioenergy 2010 Jönköping Sweden, 25–27 May - A global window for bioenergy

Posted on April 14th, 2010

Organised every second year this major global bioenergy get-together is based on the unique “Taking you from Know-How to Show-How” concept, combining conference sessions, field excursions and tradeshow into one comprehensive event. This way academic research and development blends with commercial experience providing a better business context. The overall purpose of World Bioenergy is to promote the implementation of bioenergy technologies. The focus on the conferences will also be on applied and currently available technology, as well as efficient, sustainable, and economic solutions.

World Bioenergy is showing bioenergy solutions that work, says exhibition manager Jakob Hirsmark.

A few examples from the exhibitors give you a hint on what it is all about.

Opening up new markets

S&H Teknik

“At the same fair two years ago we made a breakthrough in a new business segment with a brand we represent,” says Morgan Ramstedt, CEO of S&H Teknik AB.

S&H Teknik entered the bioenergy market a few years ago by becoming agents for biofuel crushers from the American machinery manufacturer Vermeer.

“At World Bioenergy 2008 we presented what was for us a new product range,” Ramstedt says. “The interest from visitors to the fair was great, especially for a slightly special machine with low fuel consumption in relation to its capacity.”

As a result Vermeer was able to establish a presence in two new markets by supplying customers in Spain and Portugal.

”The rise in fuel prices makes it more expensive to operate specialised machines, which have to be transported long distances in order to work at full capacity. The trend is towards bigger machines that can do more tasks and be profitable within a smaller geographic area.”

As an example, the combined crusher and chopper can be used to crush stumps, tops and branches and demolition timber, and also to chop round timber and brushwood.

Petrokraft is converting industrial oil furnaces to biofuel

World Bioenergy 2008 was a key platform for the launch of Petrokraft’s biofuel system, PCES. One important use of the system is to convert industrial oil furnaces to biofuel. “The trade fair is a window on the world for us,” explains Sture Hansson, Petrokraft’s head of marketing and business development. “This time we have several current reference projects to exhibit. Exhibiting at World Bioenergy 2010 is part of our campaign to reach potential customers worldwide.”

Green electricity from previously worthless wastewater

Opcon

The company Opcon  is one of a number of manufacturers to present new technology at World Bioenergy 2010 in Jönköping, Sweden. The new product is a container filled with technology which uses the heat from 55 °C water to generate electricity. The unit is called the Opcon Powerbox and was developed by the Swedish firm of Opcon. The first commercial Opcon Powerbox was installed last year.

“The mills generate electricity from wastewater and the process also helps to meet cooling needs,” explains Niklas Johansson, vice president Opcon. “We’re talking about as much electricity as from a wind power plant, but at a far lower investment cost,” Johansson says.

 Some facts

World Bioenergy 2008 had 4,400 unique visitors from 60 countries. 200 exhibiting companies were present in 170 stands and 1,180 persons participated in the conference and field excursions including 100 site visits. 104 companies took part in the matchmaking , where 660 business meetings were held.
