Sex bioenergy conferences in one
World Bioenergy 2010 is in fact not only one conference, but six bioenergy conferences. One of them is on policy - how to make it all happen.
What will the renewable energy policy of the European union mean to bioenergy - to market development and demand for biomass? Is it a good policy for rapid growth of sustainable biomass use in EU? Or is it another piece of red tape? Both positive and critical views are given at the policy sessions. And what about possibilities and barriers for bioenergy in other parts of the world? We give examples from the US, France, Kenya and Pakistan.

District heating and co-generation - how to use biomass in an efficient way
Why is it that Scandinavians and East Europeans produce both heat and electricity at the same time, whereas West Europeans and Americans often haven’t even heard of district heating? Why is a combined heat and power (CHP) plant a given choice in some countries, while it seems to be unheard of in others? How can we promote more efficient use of biomass by expanding district heating? And how can we improve electricity output in combined heat and power plants? This is discussed within the conference topic Combined heat and power, combustion, heating and co-firing at World Bioenergy 2010.
Visit the Igelsta CHP plant!
The Igelsta combined heat and power (CHP) plant is Sweden’s largest bio-fuelled co-generation plant. See the picture above! It also represents the biggest environmental investment ever made in the municipalities that own it. The plant produces 200 MW of heat and 85 MW of electricity - enough to keep 50,000 private houses warm and power 100,000 homes.
By taking part in pre and post conference transfer tours and daily study tours you can see a number of Swedish combined heat and power plants using wood fuels as well as waste.
